Diving the Spiegel Grove with BlueWater Divers of Key Largo

They go together like peas and carrots, as Forest Gump would say. Or in this picture, a big carrot and a small pea. That is the Spiegel Grove being towed to her final resting place with the BlueWater Diver in the foreground.

Ten years have passed since that picture and the Spiegel Grove still stands as the flagship of the artificial reef program in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Todays divers were the direct beneficiaries of everybody's efforts to make this possible. The wind came down and was blowing from the southeast around 10 knots, making the seas 2 feet. There was no current and visibility was 40-50 feet.

It was a popular dive site this morning with six dive boats. However, our timing was perfect. As we arrived, the first boats divers were coming up and as our divers were below, the other boats showed up. Nothing like a private dive on a massive ship.

Look at the picture and imagine what it looks like now...then come and we'll show you.
